Google Plans Investment of $15bn to Build AI Computing Facility in India

Data Hub Facility
India ranks as a top choice for computing facilities owing to its low data costs and rapidly growing digital audience.

Alphabet, Google's holding company the Alphabet conglomerate plans to commit fifteen billion dollars for constructing an AI data hub in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

This center, which will be set up in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam city, will become a segment of Google's international system of AI centres located in twelve different countries.

"It's the largest AI hub that we plan to invest in anywhere in the world, excluding the US," the CEO of Google Cloud stated at an event in the capital city of Delhi recently, mentioning that the investment will be allocated throughout the next half-decade.

The revelation comes at a time American President Donald Trump has been asking American companies to focus on domestic investment.

India's Increasing Significance in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

The country has become a major hub for artificial intelligence facilities. India's affordable data pricing and swiftly increasing internet user base have established it as a hub for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for major tech firms.

"The infrastructure will introduce our cutting-edge technology to companies and individuals in India, enhancing AI development and promoting progress across the country," said Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Specifics of the Project

A formal agreement to conclude the project is scheduled for signing on Tuesday, state authorities announced.

"This represents a major step forward for our state's technological advancement, innovation, and international reputation," said the minister for technology Nara Lokesh.

The venture will combine computing and artificial intelligence facilities with sustainable power solutions and an enhanced optical fiber network.

Data Infrastructure Plans

The venture is included in the state government's plan to create 6 gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Computing facilities are actual buildings that contain the networking and computing devices that companies use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They contain servers, memory systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, combined with the necessary power and cooling systems to operate them.

Funding Benefits

Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been granting reduced-cost property and power to attract international investors.

Industry Growth

The nation's data center sector has expanded quickly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and almost increasing threefold its capability from 2019.
